These inspired words are meant for us today because “all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…” 2 Timothy 3:16 Proverbs 31:1 tells us, “The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.” You are more precious than rubies! Spiritual Application: The Bride of Christ He sees them as strong and capable, ready to take on great challenges.Įven when you feel unseen, God sees you. This tells me that God looks at virtuous women with respect and gives them honor. Valor definition: great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle I don’t know about you, but when I think of a woman of valor, I think of a woman who is strong, courageous, and worthy of praise. So literally translated, the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31 is a “woman of valor.” The word “chayil” occurs 243 times in 228 verses in the Bible and is often used to describe brave men going into battle. Meanings: valor, army, strength, might, ability, efficiency, wealth, force.Some interesting things to note about this Hebrew word are:
The Hebrew word for virtuous is “chayil”. I think that’s a pretty good summary of the passage, don’t you? But let’s look at the virtuous woman a little closer. If we were to take all of these definitions together, we could surmise that the Proverbs 31 woman has high moral standards and fine personal qualities, she belongs to royalty, she’s very good, and she’s very competent. The word capable means: able to achieve efficiently whatever one has to do competent The word excellent means: extremely good outstanding The word noble can also mean: having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals The word noble means: belonging to a hereditary class with high social or political status aristocratic The word virtuous means: having or showing high moral standards Let’s take a look at the meanings behind these words.
